County Dublin VEC Communications for Living Programme Level 2
Learner Profile
Learners who undertake this programme::
o Will have demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills above level 1 standard
o May already have done level 1
o May be an early school leaver
o Are likely to have gaps in their skills, i.e., will be able to achieve to quite high levels in some areas of ability or interest and will have well developed life skills but will have learning gaps
o May have been limited in work and social advancement due to gaps in their skills
o Will have functional literacy and numeracy difficulties
o May have had a negative experience of education
o May be taking their first steps in accreditation or have accreditation that is outdated
o Are likely to be lacking in appropriate levels of confidence and self-esteem
o May come from a background which has contributed to their educational difficulties, e.g., they may have had an extended experience of poverty at a formative stage of life.
Programme Objectives
This is a multi-purpose programme. Participation will facilitate learners to:
o Extend their basic knowledge, skill and competence relevant to personal development and participation in home, community, society and employment
o Develop their basic skills in communication, decision-making and problem-solving (as indicated in the programme components)
o Transfer or progress to other programmes
